Barcelona speeds up Camp Nou work during summer break
With no football being played at the Spotify Camp Nou, FC Barcelona is using the summer break to accelerate the stadium’s renovation. Construction firm Limak has worked uninterrupted since the club’s final home league match against Real Betis on May 17, exploiting a window that runs until mid‑August.
The Joan Gamper Trophy is slated for August 19, leaving roughly nine weeks before fans can re‑enter the arena. La Liga is set to kick off on the weekend of August 15‑16, but clubs with players in the later stages of the FIFA World Cup will begin on August 26, giving Barça extra preparation time.
Without the need to pause for first‑team fixtures, Limak has increased the pace of work, especially on the third tier. Aerial photographs show concrete completed in several sections, with welding and waterproofing now under way ahead of seat installation.
Barcelona executives aim for the first capacity increase in October, although they avoid committing to firm dates after earlier delays. Meeting that target will depend on maintaining the current construction speed and securing approvals from Barcelona City Council.
Opening the third tier would allow the club to move visiting supporters to that section, easing pressure on season‑ticket holders during high‑profile matches. The upper tier will be introduced progressively, as was done with lower tiers, with the club planning to bring the third tier into operation during the 2026/27 season.
The current football hiatus has turned into a construction advantage, letting crews focus fully on key stages without interruption. When supporters finally return, they will encounter a significantly transformed stadium, with further work scheduled beyond the summer window.
