French Basketball Federation Bans Régionale 3 Player for One Year
A player competing in France's Régionale 3 basketball tier has been handed a one‑year ban by the French Basketball Federation. The sanction follows a head‑butt incident that occurred on 28 March.
During the match, the player delivered a head‑butt to the opposing coach after the coach whispered a few sweet words into his ear. The altercation was captured by officials on the court.
The federation imposed a firm one‑year prohibition on the player’s participation in any events organised by the French Basketball Federation. The ban covers all federation‑run competitions and activities.
Régionale 3 is the seventh level of French basketball, operating under the jurisdiction of the national federation. Clubs at this level are subject to the federation’s disciplinary regulations.
The disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and determined the severity warranted a lengthy suspension. The decision reflects the federation’s commitment to maintaining respect on the court.
As a result, the player will miss the upcoming season and be barred from all federation‑sanctioned matches. The ban also precludes involvement in any official training camps or tournaments.
The federation indicated the sanction serves as a deterrent and expects compliance from all participants. The player retains the right to appeal the decision through the federation’s appeal process.
