Bayer Leverkusen Rejects Arbeloa, Eyes Filipe Luís and Iraola
Bayer Leverkusen has turned down former Real Madrid coach Arbeloa for the vacant head‑coach position. The club’s search remains open as top candidates Filipe Luís and Andoni Iraola are linked to moves elsewhere.
Arbeloa, who most recently served on Real Madrid’s coaching staff, was approached by the German side earlier this week. The rejection leaves Bayer Leverkusen without a confirmed successor to the departing manager.
The coaching vacancy at Bayer Leverkusen was created after the previous manager’s departure. Club officials have described the appointment process as “difficult” in recent statements.
Filipe Luís, former Portuguese international left‑back, is among the leading names cited by the club’s insiders. Andoni Iraola, ex‑Athletic Bilbao midfielder, also appears on the short‑list according to reports.
Both Filipe Luís and Andoni Iraola are expected to sign contracts with AS Monaco and with another French club respectively. Their potential departures would close the current speculation around Bayer Leverkusen’s coaching options.
Bayer Leverkusen will resume its search for a permanent head coach within the coming weeks. The club’s next appointment will determine its preparation for the upcoming Bundesliga campaign.
