Brighton Pursues Rangers Midfielder Nico Raskin, £20m Fee

🇬🇧 2 uur geleden

Brighton and Hove Albion have intensified their pursuit of 25‑year‑old Belgian midfielder Nico Raskin, who currently stars for Rangers, after monitoring him for 18 months. The Premier League club is reportedly weighing a £20 million offer as the summer transfer window draws closer.

TEAMTalk’s transfer feed notes that Brighton have kept close tabs on Raskin for the past 18 months, evaluating his readiness for the physical demands of English football. The club’s scouting reputation for identifying technically gifted players from north of the border underpins this interest.

No official bid has yet been submitted to Ibrox, but the transfer window is intensifying. Rangers’ hierarchy expects formal paperwork soon, which could force a decisive choice from the club.

Raskin has become the heartbeat of Rangers’ engine room since his move to Scotland, anchoring the midfield. His potential departure would create a noticeable void in the centre of the pitch.

Brighton and Hove Albion have built a reputation for spotting this profile of talent before rivals trigger a bidding war. The club’s financial muscle enables it to test the limits of Rangers’ resolve.

Derek McInnes, the new Rangers manager and former Hearts boss, arrived after a manager‑of‑the‑year campaign that saw his side push the Old Firm narrowly. He has warned that a slow start would be unacceptable in Glasgow’s demanding environment.

A fee in the region of £20 million is considered substantial enough to be hard to reject. McInnes acknowledges that Scottish football’s economic reality often forces clubs to sell when an asset peaks.

McInnes already secured striker Lawrence Shankland on a free transfer, demonstrating his ability to add quality without spending. He may look to funnel any Raskin cash into strengthening the backline and adding pace on the flanks.

Nico Raskin was photographed by Ian MacNicol during Rangers’ UEFA Europa League 2025/26 Group Stage match against AS Roma at Ibrox on 6 November 2025.
