Delfim Reveals Three Alvalade Surgeries and Four‑Day Boavista Directorship
Former midfielder Delfim told Record he underwent three surgeries at Sporting CP’s Alvalade facility. He also spent four days as Boavista’s sporting director before leaving the role.
Delfim was born in the northern town of Amarante. His early football development took place in that region before moving to the capital.
The first operation repaired a meniscus injury suffered while at Sporting. He returned to match action 17 days after the procedure. Two further surgeries at Alvalade addressed unrelated issues later in his career.
In a brief administrative stint, Delfim assumed the sporting director position at Boavista. The appointment lasted only four days before he resigned. The short tenure was described as “strange” by the former player.
Delfim’s recollections highlight the physical toll of professional football in Portugal. He remains a vocal figure in discussions about player welfare and post‑retirement pathways.
