Celik guarantees Roma stay amid Gasperini talks
Zeki Celik publicly confirmed his commitment to AS Roma on Sunday. The Turkey international told head coach Gian Piero Gasperini he will remain at the club. Celik’s statement follows speculation over his future after a difficult campaign.
Celik endured a mixed season under Gasperini in Serie A. Roma finished sixth, securing Europa League qualification. The Turkish defender featured 31 times across all competitions.
Gasperini had previously raised doubts about Celik’s role for next season. The coach questioned whether the player still met Roma’s standards. Celik responded by asserting his determination to prove his value.
Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto supported Celik’s stance. Pinto emphasized the player’s importance to the squad. The club is set to compete in the Champions League after a two-year absence.
Celik, 28, joined Roma in 2022 from Lille. He has made 104 appearances for the Giallorossi. His contract runs until June 2026.
