Cesc Fàbregas drops Van der Brempt, Monza eye Vojvoda

🇧🇪 8 uur geleden

Como coach Cesc Fàbregas has told Belgian defender Ignace Van der Brempt he is no longer in his plans for the upcoming season, while Serie A newcomers Monza have shown interest in fellow Belgian midfielder Mergim Vojvoda, 110 caps and was part of the Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012 winning squads. He has been Como's head coach since July 2024.

Fàbregas arrived at Como as a shareholder in 2022, ended his playing career there and later coached the U19 side. He then assisted Osian Roberts on the first‑team bench before being appointed head coach after the previous manager departed.

Como finished fourth in Serie A last season and secured a Champions League berth, ending five points behind Napoli’s second place. The club aims to contest European qualification spots again next campaign.

Ignace Van der Brempt joined Como from Salzburg last summer for a €5 million fee, having previously been a Club Brugge “Diablotin”. He featured in 20 league matches this season, starting roughly ten times and serving mainly as a late‑season substitute; his contract runs until 2028.

Mergim Vojvoda, who previously played for Standard, Sint‑Truiden and Mouscron, appeared in 30 Serie A games this season, fifteen as a starter. The Berlusconi family club Monza, newly promoted after the playoffs, has expressed definite interest in signing him.

If the reported interest materialises, Van der Brempt could seek a new club this summer, while Vojvoda may complete a move to Monza. Both Belgian internationals could therefore leave Como ahead of the next campaign.
