Switzerland name 26-man squad for 2026 World Cup, Xhaka included
Swiss national team manager Murat Yakin has announced the 26‑player squad that will compete at the 2026 World Cup. Granit Xhaka is confirmed as part of the list. Three Ligue 1 players are also included, with one from Rennes and another from Lorient.
The squad size of 26 players aligns with the tournament regulations for the upcoming World Cup. Yakin presented the list publicly, highlighting the blend of domestic and foreign‑based talent.
Among the selected players, three are currently employed by clubs in France’s top division, Ligue 1. This underscores the continued influence of French clubs on the Swiss national team.
One of the Ligue 1 representatives plays for Stade Rennais, while another is a Lorient player. Their inclusion adds experience from a competitive league to the Swiss roster.
The third Ligue 1 player, though not named in the announcement, completes the French contingent within the squad. All three will join their teammates for the World Cup preparations.
The announced roster will form the core of Switzerland’s campaign at the 2026 tournament. Yakin’s selections aim to balance skill, experience, and positional coverage.
Switzerland now turns its focus to the upcoming World Cup, where the selected 26 will represent the nation on football’s biggest stage. The team will begin training together in the weeks ahead of the competition.
