Coventry City table £20m bid for Carl Rushworth
Coventry City have submitted a £20 million bid for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, according to talkSPORT. Brighton & Hove Albion are reviewing the offer.
Rushworth, 24, spent the 2023‑24 season on loan with Coventry City, playing every Championship league match, conceding 45 goals and keeping 17 clean sheets as the Sky Blues won the title. His loan ended and he returned to Brighton, but the bid would set a new club record for Coventry.
The goalkeeper has one year left on his Brighton contract and has been monitored by England. Frank Lampard, Coventry manager, has already secured Frank Onyeka for the 2026‑27 Premier League campaign and praised Rushworth’s talent, noting potential England caps.
Lampard also referenced past signings – Haji Wright (Antalyaspor, £7.7 m), Craig Bellamy (Norwich, £6.5 m), Robbie Keane (Wolves, £6 m), Lee Hughes (West Brom, £5 m) and Jack Rudoni (Huddersfield, £5 m). He confirmed Coventry are also evaluating Taylor Harwood‑Bellis and discussed recent off‑field incidents involving Southampton and a post‑match scuffle, while urging quick action on transfers.
Lampard said he knows England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Everton and compared Rushworth’s talent, adding that “he’s got absolutely the talent to be able to play for his country”. He made the comments on The Sports Bar with Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara after the promotion celebration.
