Craig Bellamy Emerges as Candidate for Burnley Manager Role

🇬🇧 8 uur geleden

Former Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy has emerged as a serious contender for the permanent manager role at Burnley, with the club reportedly contacting the Football Association of Wales about the Wales head coach, who is under contract until 2028. Bellamy’s candidacy follows Burnley’s search after Scott Parker’s departure.

Bellamy currently serves as head coach of the Wales national team, a position secured until 2028 and protected by a release clause that would allow a move to club management. This contractual detail makes any potential Burnley appointment both a sporting and financial decision.

Bellamy previously worked at Burnley, first as an assistant and later as interim head coach under Vincent Kompany. His familiarity with the club’s training ground, internal rhythm and much of the squad is highlighted as valuable after the club’s recent relegation.

Burnley’s managerial vacancy at Turf Moor arose after Scott Parker left by mutual consent, a situation that has persisted for several weeks. Earlier in the process, former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard was linked, but no formal offer materialised.

Wales drew 1-1 with Ghana in early June, a match that preceded Bellamy’s public comments on his commitment to the Welsh side. He said, “Everything’s in place, I get completely backed and it’s going to give me the opportunity in the next two years to improve again.”

Bellamy added, “Links? I understand it but I don’t look too far. I love what I have here.” He continued, “I’ve been offered that elsewhere as well, but I have this here already. Wales gave me this opportunity and I’m really grateful for that.”

Burnley require a manager capable of resetting standards quickly, navigating the Championship and building momentum before pre‑season. Compared with other candidates, Bellamy is described as a more grounded option who understands the club’s environment.

For now, Burnley have made official contact with the Football Association of Wales, but agreement, compensation and persuasion remain to be finalised. The outcome will determine whether Bellamy’s Wales role or a return to English club management will prevail.
