Mallorca extends Martín Demichelis contract despite relegation

Mallorca confirmed on Thursday the renewal of head coach Martín Demichelis's contract for two more seasons. The extension runs until 2028 despite the club's relegation to Spain's second division. The 45‑year‑old Argentine took charge in February 2026 with 13 league games remaining. Under Demichelis the side recorded five wins, three draws and five defeats. Mallorca finished the season on 42 points, equal to Osasuna and Levante, but missed out on La Liga survival. The league standing placed Mallorca in the relegation zone. The board stated Demichelis is the right coach to lead the "Los Bermellones" back to the top flight. Their primary target for the 2028‑2029 campaign is promotion. Demichelis previously managed River Plate and Monterrey as head coach. The renewal adds two seasons to his existing deal.
