Bayer Leverkusen appoint Carles Martínez Novell as head coach
Bayer Leverkusen has named Carles Martínez Novell as its new head coach.
The Catalan replaces Danish manager Kasper Hjulmand.
Martínez Novell, 42, spent the last three seasons leading Toulouse.
He guided the French side in Ligue 1 throughout that period.
Earlier in his career, Martínez Novell worked in the youth systems of FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol.
His background includes development roles at both clubs.
Hjulmand departs Bayer Leverkusen after a single season in charge.
The Danish coach's tenure concluded this week.
Álvaro Arbeloa offered himself for the vacant position but received a negative response.
The former defender’s bid was turned down by the club.
