UE Sant Andreu Marks 49 Years Since Dalí Rescue
UE Sant Andreu commemorates its eight‑year spell in Segunda División (1969‑1977) and celebrates recent promotion to 1 RFEF. The club marks 49 years since the crisis that ended with Salvador Dalí’s painting “Gol!”.
During 1969‑1977 the four‑stripe side faced historic opponents in the second tier of Spanish football. The period is remembered as the club’s most glorious era.
Throughout that era the club recruited players from lower‑league “campanillas” and appointed coaches with strong résumés. The strategy aimed to compete against established teams.
The promotion to 1 RFEF has sparked enthusiasm among supporters in the municipality of Sant Andreu del Palomar. Fans describe the atmosphere as a surge of optimism.
The 49‑year anniversary also recalls the financial and sporting crisis that threatened the club’s existence. Salvador Dalí intervened by creating the artwork “Gol!” which is credited with saving the club.
Looking ahead, UE Sant Andreu hopes to consolidate its place in 1 RFEF and build on the historic legacy celebrated this week.
