Sevilla Cancels Planned Signing of Patrik Mercado
Sevilla has decided not to complete the transfer of Ecuadorian midfielder Patrik Mercado from Independiente del Valle. The club had previously announced an agreement for his arrival after the summer World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The cancellation follows a serious knee injury that Mercado suffered in March. The injury raised concerns about his short‑term availability for the Andalusian side.
Sevilla invoked a clause in the contract that allowed the club to choose whether to execute the deal. The clause gave the club the option to proceed or withdraw without penalty.
The original agreement was valued at approximately six million euros. The financial terms were set when the deal was first announced.
By exercising the clause, Sevilla opted to abandon the signing. The decision means the club will not add Mercado to its squad for the upcoming season.
The club communicated the decision through its official channels. The announcement confirmed that the transfer will not go ahead.
Patrik Mercado remains a player of Independiente del Valle. He will focus on recovering from his injury and returning to full fitness.
Sevilla will now look to other options to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new campaign.
