Elche wins Futures title beating Real Madrid 2-3 in final
Elche defeated Real Madrid 2-3 in the Futures final to claim their first-ever tournament title. The match concluded with a late winner in extra time.
Real Madrid took an early lead through Dani Carvajal but Elche responded with goals from Mario González and Borja Bastón. A second-half equalizer from Federico Valverde forced extra time.
In the 105th minute, Elche’s Borja Bastón scored the decisive goal to secure the victory. The win marks Elche’s maiden Futures championship.
Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Mario González equalized for Elche in the 28th minute before Borja Bastón restored their lead in the 35th minute.
Federico Valverde’s 72nd-minute strike forced the match into extra time. The Futures final was played in neutral venue conditions.
Elche’s squad included goalkeeper Germán López, defenders Iván Marcone and Unai López, and midfielders Pol Lirola and Kiko Femenía. Real Madrid fielded Thibaut Courtois, Antonio Rüdiger, and Eduardo Camavinga among others.
The Futures tournament featured 16 teams competing in a knockout format. Elche and Real Madrid advanced through the quarter-finals and semi-finals without defeats.
Borja Bastón finished as the tournament’s top scorer with four goals. Dani Carvajal was named Player of the Match for Real Madrid.
Elche’s victory ends a 28-year trophy drought for the club. The club’s last major title was the 1997 Copa del Rey.
