Deschamps reflects on 25 years with France team
France face Ivory Coast in World Cup 2026 opener on June 4 at Stade de la Beaujoire. Didier Deschamps last played for Nantes from 1985 to 1989.
Deschamps, France's head coach, spoke to Ouest-France ahead of the match. The encounter includes former Nantes players he trained with or played alongside.
He confirmed his departure after Euro 2024, ending a 25-year tenure with the national team. Deschamps took charge in 2012.
Deschamps began his Nantes career at the Clairefontaine academy before joining the senior squad. He made 111 appearances for Nantes from 1985 to 1989.
The June 4 fixture marks France's first World Cup 2026 warm-up match. Kick-off is scheduled for 21:10 CET.
Deschamps previously led France to World Cup victory in 2018 and Euro 2020 runners-up.
