Sporting beat FC Porto 4-1 to reach Campeonato final
Sporting CP secured a 4-1 first-leg win over FC Porto in the Campeonato Placard semi-finals at Dragão Arena on Wednesday. The result gave Sporting a commanding 3-0 aggregate lead heading into the second leg.
FC Porto hosted the first leg at their Dragão Arena on April 23. Sporting dominated early, taking a 2-0 lead within 20 minutes through goals from Pedro Gonçalves and João Ugarte.
Porto pulled one back on 38 minutes via Fran Navarro. Gonçalves restored Sporting’s two-goal cushion in first-half stoppage time before Viktor Gyökeres added a late third in the 89th minute.
Sporting’s 3-0 aggregate advantage ensures qualification for the final regardless of the second leg’s outcome. The second leg is scheduled for April 30 at Estádio José Alvalade.
Sporting now awaits the winner of the second semi-final between SL Benfica and SC Braga. Benfica lead that tie 2-0 after the first leg.
João Ugarte scored his third goal in three matches in this competition. Pedro Gonçalves has four goals in the current campaign.
