Fermín López posts rehab update after World Cup injury

🇪🇸 1 uur geleden

Barcelona midfielder Fermín López Marín posted a series of Instagram images on Tuesday showing his first month of rehabilitation after a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot forced him out of the World Cup. The pictures capture him walking with crutches and underline his determination to return.

In the post, López included a quote from Alfred Pennyworth, the fictional Batman butler, writing: “Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” He paired the quote with a Bible verse that reads, “The suffering we now face is not worth comparing with the glory that is to come.”

López’s injury was a blow for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team, La Roja, as he was poised to provide a different option off the bench at the World Cup. The midfielder had been gaining importance and was fighting to cement his place among the nation’s top players.

The player underwent surgery several weeks ago, and Barcelona’s medical staff had projected a three‑month recovery period for the metatarsal fracture. Such an injury demands patience, especially for a midfielder who relies on quick changes of direction and repeated runs.

Most Barcelona squad members are scheduled to resume training on 13 July as the club begins its pre‑season preparations. López, however, will continue progressing through the staged rehabilitation program before rejoining full training.

Flick described López’s absence as a short‑term issue for the side, while affirming his long‑term value to the team. The coach expects the midfielder to be available “sooner rather than later” after the pre‑season starts.

The social‑media update shows López walking with crutches, signalling steady progress in his rehabilitation. His positive mindset suggests he will remain a key figure for Barcelona in the coming seasons despite the World Cup setback.

Barça will monitor his recovery closely, aiming to integrate him fully once he clears the medical milestones. Until then, López’s social‑media messages serve as a reminder of his resilience and ambition.
