Enrique Riquelme Pledges Haaland Signing to Boost Real Madrid Election
Enrique Riquelme has launched a record‑time candidacy for the presidency of Real Madrid. He announced a promised signing of Haaland to reshape the club’s election polls.
The announcement is not an actual transfer; it is a notarial pledge. If Riquelme is elected and does not sign Haaland and Rodrigo, he will cover the annual membership fee for each of Real Madrid’s 100,000 socios.
Riquelme’s tactic mirrors a move made 26 years ago by Florentino Pérez, who promised a Figo signing to win a previously lost election. Pérez’s strategy succeeded in shifting the vote in his favour.
The pledged payment would equal one year’s membership for every Real Madrid member. Real Madrid counts roughly 100,000 registered socios.
Riquelme’s campaign now relies on whether the financial promise can sway voter sentiment ahead of the presidential ballot. The election outcome will determine if the Haaland pledge becomes operative.
