Prosecutors Seek 18-Month Prison for Teen in Florian Thauvin Burglary
An 18-year-old high-school student has been tried for his alleged role in the burglary of footballer Florian Thauvin’s home near Lille. The public prosecutor has asked a court to impose 18 months of definitive imprisonment. The verdict is scheduled for 24 June.
Prosecutors describe the teenager as a low-level executor who was recruited through encrypted messaging services. He is alleged to have carried out the break-in after being directed by others. The investigation linked the suspect to the crime via digital communications.
The burglary concerned the home of footballer Florian Thauvin, a high-profile player in French football. The incident occurred in a residential area close to Lille. Authorities treated the case as a serious property offense involving a public figure.
The case was heard in a summary trial (comparution immédiate), allowing a swift judgment. French law permits the prosecutor to request a custodial sentence in such proceedings. If the court follows the prosecutor’s recommendation, the teenager will serve the imposed term.
The court’s decision on 24 June will determine whether the 18-month sentence is applied. A conviction could set a precedent for handling similar offenses involving minors and encrypted communications.
