Frank Lampard near deal with Coventry after title win
Frank Lampard is in advanced talks on a new contract with Coventry City after steering the Sky Blues to the Premier League as Championship title winners, a feat that included 28 league victories and ended a 25‑year top‑flight absence; his current deal runs until the end of next season.
Frank Lampard arrived at Coventry City in November 2024 when the Sky Blues were 17th in the Championship, just two points above the relegation zone. At the time, the club faced a precarious position that demanded immediate improvement.
The subsequent revival saw Coventry win 16 of their remaining 29 league matches. That run propelled them into the play‑offs and laid the foundation for further progress.
In the following season, Lampard guided Coventry to the Championship title, recording 28 league victories, the highest tally in the club’s history. The triumph ended a 25‑year absence from top‑flight football.
BBC reported that Lampard’s success has attracted interest from Fulham. The attention reflects his rising reputation after the Sky Blues’ revival.
Speaking after promotion in April, Lampard said: “There’s a lot of work to do because we know the step up it will be for the football club.” He added that the club must be ambitious and prepare quickly for the Premier League challenge.
Coventry’s board recognises that survival will require recruitment, structure and clarity, with a manager fully aligned with its objectives. A new contract would therefore be more than a reward; it would provide essential protection for the club’s Premier League plans.
Securing the deal before pre‑season begins would send a clear message that Coventry intends to compete, not merely participate, in the Premier League. Such continuity is expected to calm supporters and give the squad stability ahead of the upcoming campaign.
