Greuther Fürth survives relegation with 2-0 win over Rot-Weiss Essen
SpVgg Greuther Fürth avoided relegation after defeating Rot-Weiss Essen 2-0 in the second leg of the playoff. The aggregate score stood at 3-1 in favor of Fürth.
Greuther Fürth progressed to the final replay with a 1-0 win in the first leg. The second leg saw Fürth dominate possession and create multiple chances before securing the victory.
Rot-Weiss Essen struggled to contain Fürth’s attacking threat, conceding twice in the second half. Fürth’s defense, marshaled by goalkeeper Sascha Burchert, held firm under pressure.
Head coach Alexander Zorniger praised his team’s resilience after the match. "We knew it would be tough, but the team showed great character," Zorniger said.
Fürth now faces a summer rebuild. Club sporting director Detlef Kringe emphasized the need for squad restructuring. "We survived relegation, but a squad overhaul is necessary for the future," Kringe stated.
