Genoa complete permanent transfer of Tommaso Baldanzi from Roma

Genoa CFC have finalised the permanent transfer of Tommaso Baldanzi from AS Roma, following a successful loan spell during the second half of the 2025-26 Serie A season. The 23-year-old midfielder will join Genoa on an initial loan for the entire 2026-27 campaign, with an obligation to buy clause reported to be worth €9.5m. Baldanzi, who will continue to wear the number 8 shirt, has been a key figure for Genoa’s attacking play, registering eight appearances and two assists during his loan spell under head coach Daniele De Rossi.

The move marks Baldanzi’s third stint with Genoa, having previously joined on loan from Roma in January 2026. De Rossi initially brought Baldanzi to Roma from Empoli in 2024, shortly after taking charge of the Giallorossi. Baldanzi’s return to Genoa was confirmed in a club statement, which described him as a player who ‘proved to be an important figure in the team’s attacking play.’

Reports earlier this week suggested that the obligation to buy clause would activate at around €9.5m, with Baldanzi set to sign a contract running until the end of the 2029/30 season once the clause is triggered. The midfielder, born in 2003, has been praised for his contributions on the pitch, particularly during his time with the Rossoblu.

Baldanzi expressed his excitement about continuing his career with Genoa, stating: “I’m thrilled to be able to continue this adventure in the Grifone shirt. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch in these colours. I feel like I have a lot to give, and I know that I still have a lot to prove in front of the Rossoblu fans, who made me feel right at home from my first day here in Genoa.”
