Gerry Cardinale to attend FIGC assembly in Rome on June 22
Gerry Cardinale will represent AC Milan at the Italian Football Federation’s (FIGC) electoral assembly in Rome on June 22. The RedBird Capital Partners owner will attend the event at the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where candidates Giancarlo Abete and Giovanni Malagò will compete for the FIGC presidency. New federal councillors will also be elected during the assembly.
Cardinale’s attendance marks a deliberate push for greater involvement in Italian football. The move follows AC Milan’s turbulent season, which concluded without Champions League qualification. The American owner has already signaled his commitment by attending Milan’s final two matches: the away game at Genoa and the home defeat to Cagliari.
The Rome trip aligns with Cardinale’s broader strategy to reshape AC Milan’s leadership. He has confirmed Ruben Amorim as head coach and is now accelerating the search for a sporting director and technical director. The new structure aims to stabilize the club’s sporting direction.

SportMediaset, via CalcioMercato, first reported Cardinale’s participation in the FIGC assembly. The news underscores his intent to be more present in Italian football governance. The assembly’s outcomes could influence future football policies in Italy. AC Milan’s ownership has also emphasized the urgency of rebuilding the squad. Cardinale’s involvement in the FIGC assembly reflects his focus on both club-level and national-level football decisions.
