Gilmour ruled out of World Cup with knee injury
Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour will miss the World Cup after suffering a knee injury during Saturday’s 4-1 friendly victory over Curaçao. Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher started in midfield for the injured Gilmour, who exited in the 30th minute.
Gilmour sustained the injury during a first-half challenge at Hampden Park. Scotland manager Steve Clarke confirmed Gilmour’s absence from the tournament immediately after the match.
Gilmour, 23, made 12 appearances for Scotland since his debut in 2021. His club form at Chelsea has been inconsistent, contributing to just one goal in 24 Premier League appearances this season.
Scotland face Norway in their opening World Cup fixture on June 16. The squad includes Manchester United’s Scott McTominay and Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson.
Clarke has not named a direct replacement for Gilmour. Liverpool’s Ryan Kent remains on standby after being recalled to the squad.
