CTA Appoints Same-Region Referee for Sanse-Cultural Match
A referee from the same autonomous community will take charge of the Segunda División clash between Sanse and Cultural on Saturday. The appointment follows a historic decision by the CTA.
Three fixtures have already been decided for this Saturday as the league race offers no remaining stakes. Sanse versus Cultural is one of those matches.
The referee assignment is described as an unprecedented event in Spanish officiating. No previous Segunda División game has featured a referee sharing the teams' regional affiliation.
The move is part of reforms introduced by the newly formed CTA under the presidency of Fran Soto. Soto aims to eliminate the practice of territorial bias in referee appointments.
If the Sanse‑Cultural match proceeds without controversy, the decision could become a model for future assignments. The CTA plans to monitor the outcome before extending the policy league‑wide.
