Inaki Pena set for €3m move to Panathinaikos, medical today

🇪🇸 10 uur geleden

Inaki Pena, the 27‑year‑old La Masia product, is poised to complete a €3 million permanent transfer to Greek side Panathinaikos, with his medical scheduled for today. The goalkeeper will sign a three‑year contract with an option for a fourth year, and Barcelona expects the deal to be finalised by tomorrow.

FC Barcelona have turned their attention to securing priority centre‑forward Julian Alvarez after the recent signing of Anthony Gordon. The club also aims to balance the books and clear room for new signings before 30 June.

Ansu Fati is set to leave Barcelona for AS Monaco on a permanent €11 million transfer following a successful loan spell. His departure forms part of the Blaugrana’s plan to sanction exits before the summer window closes.

Inaki Pena’s move to Panathinaikos is reported by journalist Matteo Moretto as closed, with the 27‑year‑old ready to sign a three‑year deal that includes an option for a fourth year. The transfer will see the goalkeeper depart Barcelona for the Greek club.

Barcelona will receive a €3 million fee for Pena, and his medical with Panathinaikos is scheduled for today. The agreement is expected to be finalised either later today or by tomorrow morning.

Pena spent 14 years at FC Barcelona after joining La Masia from the Villarreal youth academy in 2012, rising through the ranks before becoming a backup to Marc‑Andre ter Stegen. His long tenure at the club underscores his development within the Barcelona system.

A loan spell at Galatasaray allowed Pena to showcase his talent, but he later fell behind Wojciech Szczesny in the 2024/25 pecking order, and the arrival of Joan Garcia last summer further limited his prospects. A subsequent loan at Elche did not lead to a return, and Pena leaves Barcelona after 45 first‑team appearances, conceding 64 goals and keeping ten clean sheets.

Images of the transfer were supplied by photographer Rafa Babot, while a separate picture of Pena’s farewell was captured by Fran Santiago.
