Íñigo Pérez Targets Historic Spanish Triple in Europe
Spanish coaches occupy finals of all three major UEFA club competitions this season. Unai Emery lifted the Europa League with Aston Villa. Mikel Arteta and Luis Enrique will contest the Champions League final with Arsenal and PSG respectively.
The UEFA Conference League final will be played on Wednesday. Íñigo Pérez leads modest Rayo Vallecano into that match. A victory would give Spain a unique triple of continental titles won by coaches of the same nationality.
No other nation has achieved that distinction since the three competitions returned to a wide-format structure. The achievement would require three different Spanish managers each securing a different UEFA trophy in the same season.
Rayo Vallecano will take the field with a chance to complete the set. A win would add the Conference League to Emery’s Europa League and Arteta’s or Enrique’s potential Champions League triumph.
