John Textor Appointed President of Olympique Lyonnais
John Textor was appointed president of Olympique Lyonnais on 5 May 2023, succeeding Jean-Michel Aulas. The appointment follows his acquisition of a majority stake in the French club the previous year.
Textor is an American businessman born on 30 September 1965 in Kriksville, Missouri. His career includes investments in multiple football clubs across continents.
In 2022 Textor became the majority shareholder of Olympique Lyonnais, giving him controlling interest in the Ligue 1 side. The ownership change set the stage for his later promotion to president.
Textor also holds a majority stake in Brazilian club Botafogo. He is a shareholder in English Premier League side Crystal Palace and Belgian club RWD Molenbeek.
The combination of French, Brazilian, English and Belgian interests positions Textor as a multi‑club investor. His presidency at Lyon adds the French league to his portfolio.
