Jordi Alba Says Griezmann’s Barcelona Struggle Was Systemic
Former Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba explained on Mario Suarez’s YouTube channel why Antoine Griezmann’s spell at Barcelona did not meet expectations. Alba said Griezmann “did things right” but ultimately failed to adapt to the club’s system.
Alba highlighted Griezmann’s professionalism and dedication during their time together. He added that Griezmann was always at full throttle physically and technically very good.
According to Alba, effort and quality were never the issue; the problem was Griezmann never found his place within Barcelona’s tactical framework.
Alba noted that Griezmann never felt comfortable in a Barcelona shirt at Camp Nou and struggled to carve a clear role alongside Lionel Messi and other stars. The French forward produced respectable numbers and flashes of quality but could not establish a defined position.
After departing Barcelona, Griezmann returned to Atletico Madrid and quickly regained the form that had made him a sought‑after player. He became one of Diego Simeone’s most important players, the “Griezmann” Barcelona had originally targeted.
Alba’s assessment reflects a view shared by many observers who watched Griezmann’s two‑season stint at the Catalan club.
