Mourinho's Benfica clause unchanged, deadline extended
José Mourinho's release clause with Benfica stays at its current level on Tuesday. Media linked to Real Madrid had suggested a change, but no amendment was announced.
Portuguese sources explain the clause's deadline is being extended. Mourinho's contract with Setúbal defines the period as ten working days after the team's final match of the season, not ten calendar days.
The distinction pushes the deadline beyond the previously reported date. Consequently, the clause still values Mourinho at €7 million.
Florentino Pérez therefore remains able to appoint Mourinho for €7 million. The fee would rise to €15 million once the extended deadline expires.
Clubs monitoring the situation must decide before the new cutoff to avoid the higher price. The clause will automatically increase to €15 million after the ten‑day working‑day window closes.
