Lamine Yamal vows beard and headphone raffle if Spain win World Cup
Lamine Yamal, the 18‑year‑old Barcelona forward, pledged a beard and a headphone giveaway if Spain win the World Cup in North America. He made the promise during a Q&A video posted on his YouTube channel ahead of his tournament debut.
Yamal said he will grow a full beard and moustache and refrain from shaving for three weeks. He also promised to raffle 100 Beats by Dre headphones, a total value of about £35,000.
Luis de la Fuente selected Yamal for Spain’s World Cup squad after the teenager helped the side win Euro 2024. Yamal earned the Young Player of the Tournament award at Euro 2024.
A hamstring injury has kept Yamal out since April, causing him to miss the end of Barcelona’s season. De la Fuente expressed optimism that Yamal will be available for Spain’s opening match.
Spain open Group H against Cape Verde on Monday, June 15, before facing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. The schedule was confirmed as part of the World Cup programme.
Since his senior debut in 2023, Yamal has scored six goals in 25 caps for Spain. He contributed 24 goals and 18 assists in 45 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions last season. He was named in the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament after recording one goal and four assists in seven matches.
