Leeds United Drop Interest in Douglas Luiz
Leeds United have officially stepped back from pursuing Douglas Luiz, the 28‑year‑old Brazilian midfielder. Luiz is set to return to Juventus after loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. Pete O’Rourke confirmed the club’s decision.
The Elland Road side monitored Luiz for months and even weighed a concrete bid last summer when Premier League survival was the sole focus. Times have changed, and manager Daniel Farke now prioritises other targets. Juventus are eager to remove Luiz from their wage bill.
Luiz completed two consecutive Premier League loans without securing a regular starting place, raising concerns about his fitness and form. His confidence appears diminished, making a sizeable summer outlay risky for a club aiming for a top‑half finish. Former peak performances under Dean Smith and Unai Emery highlight his talent, but inconsistency remains a red flag.
Leeds United will instead seek younger, hungry players who can deliver collective effort. A February 7, 2026 photograph by Richard Pelham shows Luiz of Aston Villa during a Premier League match against Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium, underscoring his recent itinerant spell.
