Luca Reggiani Sent Off After 13 Minutes on Italy Debut
Luca Reggiani made his senior Italy debut against Greece on Sunday. He received a straight red card 13 minutes after being introduced from the bench in the second half.
Reggiani entered the match at minute 55 to replace injured Fiorentina defender Pietro Comuzzo. He was sent off for pulling the shirt of Anastasios Douvikas and preventing the Como forward from latching onto a long pass. Referee Yigal Frid showed a straight red card after the incident near the halfway line.
Reggiani, a Borussia Dortmund defender, became Italy’s last defender when the red card was shown. He was the 17th player to debut under caretaker coach Silvio Baldini in the last two matches. Baldini warmly hugged Reggiani as he left the Italy bench after seeing red.
Last March, Reggiani became the youngest Italian to score a goal in the Bundesliga. He later celebrated scoring his team’s second goal with teammate Julian Ryerson in a Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park on March 14, 2026.
