Marc Bernal names Julian Alvarez As Barcelona target

🇪🇸 7 uur geleden

Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal told Diari ARA that the Argentine striker Julian Alvarez is both the opponent he would avoid and the player he most wants Barcelona to sign, underscoring the Camp Nou’s interest in the Atletico Madrid forward this summer.

In a past interview with Diari ARA, Bernal was asked to name the player he would least like to face and the one he would most like to sign for Barcelona. He answered identically, stating, “A player I wouldn’t want to face? Julian Alvarez. A player I’d want to sign for Barça? Julian Alvarez,” he said.

Julian Alvarez is an Argentine striker currently playing for Atletico Madrid. His intelligence, pressing intensity and ability to operate between the lines match the profile sought by Hansi Flick’s Barcelona system.

Barcelona’s interest has already materialised in an initial €100 million offer, which failed to advance negotiations. The club is not currently preparing a higher bid, accepting that talks may extend further.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has repeatedly warned that Alvarez is not for sale, citing a contract that runs until 2030. The forward’s release clause is set at €500 million.

Alvarez is currently representing Argentina at the World Cup, a factor that has naturally slowed transfer discussions. The tournament’s schedule is expected to keep negotiations on hold until its conclusion.

Within Barcelona, there is a belief that Alvarez has already signalled his preference for a move to Camp Nou. This internal confidence fuels the club’s persistence despite Atletico’s resistance.

If talks resume after the World Cup, the saga could stretch deep into the summer, testing both clubs’ patience.
