Marco Baroni named Hellas Verona head coach on two-year deal

Hellas Verona FC announced Marco Baroni’s return as head coach on a two-year contract with an optional extra year, effective 1 July. The Tuscan-born tactician will aim to guide the Serie B side back to Serie A after a 19th-place finish last season.

Baroni previously managed Verona in the 2023-24 season, steering the club to a 13th-place finish in Serie A, its highest position in the last four campaigns. He had also served as an assistant coach under Alberto Malesani in the 2002-03 season after playing for Verona from 1995 to 1998, making 93 appearances and scoring nine goals across Serie A, Serie B and the Coppa Italia.

During his managerial career, Baroni achieved promotion to Serie A with Benevento in 2016-17 and with Lecce in 2021-22. He later coached Lazio in 2024-25 and Torino in 2025-26, before returning to Verona. While in charge of Torino, Baroni was on the sidelines for the Coppa Italia quarter-final against FC Internazionale on 4 February 2026 in Monza. He also oversaw Torino’s Serie A clash with SSC Napoli on 18 October 2025 in Turin.

Verona confirmed Baroni has signed a contract running until 30 June 2028, with an option to extend for an additional season until 2029. The agreement will see him officially assume his duties on 1 July.

The club’s statement emphasised the goal of securing promotion back to Serie A at the first time of asking in the 2026-27 campaign. Verona’s recent 19th-place finish in the top flight underscores the urgency of that target.
