Marco Silva to leave Fulham for Benfica role
Fulham confirmed Marco Silva will depart after five seasons this summer.
Silva’s exit follows reports of a near-final agreement for him to replace Rui Vitória at Benfica. Benfica previously parted ways with Vitória on 19 May.
Silva joined Fulham in July 2019 and oversaw 221 games, including promotion back to the Premier League in 2022. His contract at Fulham was set to expire at the end of June.
Benfica’s sporting director, Rui Costa, is overseeing the managerial transition. Benfica announced their intention to appoint a new head coach on 21 May.
Silva’s final match in charge of Fulham is expected to be the Premier League season finale against Manchester United on 19 May.
