Mark Ashton: Ipswich Town manager appointment imminent

🇬🇧 7 uur geleden

Ipswich Town chairman Mark Ashton announced on BBC Radio Suffolk that a new manager will be appointed imminently, as the club readies for its Premier League return following Kieran McKenna’s resignation, his third promotion in four seasons, his second into the top flight.

Kieran McKenna resigned weeks after clinching promotion, his third promotion in four seasons and second into the top flight. Ashton recalled the club’s last promotion, noting they had been outside the Premier League for over two decades and had less than 11 months in the Championship to build infrastructure. He said the club now prepares for its return to the Premier League.

Ashton said the club will now build a new training ground and has enhanced recruitment, analysis, performance and medical departments on and off the pitch. He added that these improvements make the club more robust this time around. He also stated the aim is to do everything possible to stay in the division.

The chairman warned that the incoming manager will be "straight in the deep end" unlike a mid‑table League One appointment where there is time to settle. He emphasized that it will be tough for any incoming manager.

Ashton explained the board has given him ample time for due diligence, encouraging him to take as much time as needed. He concluded that an appointment is now imminent.

Former player Leif Davis also shared his thoughts on the club’s Premier League fixture schedule on BBC Sounds. Listeners can hear Mark Ashton’s full interview on BBC Sounds.
