McCaul out long-term with cruciate ligament injury
Bobby McCaul faces a lengthy absence after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury in Monaghan’s Round 1 All-Ireland Football Championship loss to Mayo at Clones on Sunday.
The Monaghan forward was taken off early in the first half after a heavy collision, confirmed by team medical staff as a serious knee injury. Mayo defeated Monaghan 1-15 to 0-10 in the match.
Monaghan manager Steven McDonnell confirmed McCaul’s injury status post-game, ruling out a swift return. McCaul, 22, had been Monaghan’s top scorer in the lead-up to the championship.
McDonnell added that the team would support McCaul through his rehabilitation, emphasizing the club’s focus on his long-term recovery. The injury occurred during a high-tempo collision in midfield.
McCaul’s absence leaves a void in Monaghan’s attacking options for upcoming fixtures. The team next faces Tyrone in the All-Ireland qualifiers.
Rehabilitation timeline remains undetermined as medical assessments continue.
