Mourinho tells Real Madrid to freeze Gonzalo Garcia exit
Jose Mourinho has instructed Real Madrid to halt any discussions about the possible departure of academy graduate striker Gonzalo Garcia this summer, according to a report citing Matteo Moretto of Madrid Zone. The Portuguese manager wants to assess the young Spaniard during pre‑season before deciding his future.
Real Madrid have completed a busy transfer window, adding Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries to the squad. The arrivals are part of the changes overseen by new manager Jose Mourinho.
With the influx of new signings, several fringe players are expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu. Gonzalo Garcia, a young striker who saw limited minutes under Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, is among those linked with a move despite his breakthrough at the FIFA Club World Cup last summer.
Mourinho believes Garcia possesses interesting qualities for his project and wants to analyse him thoroughly during pre‑season. Clubs from Spain, England, Germany and Italy have reportedly shown interest in the Spaniard.
Kylian Mbappe is set to remain the undisputed No. 9 for Real Madrid. Endrick, returning from his loan spell at Olympique Lyon, is also expected to compete for a larger role, limiting Garcia’s chances of regular minutes.
