Issam Lahrach Sentenced to 10 Years, Assets Seized in Morocco
Issam Lahrach, identified as the most powerful drug trafficker in Nantes, was sentenced to ten years in prison on May 20 in Rennes. The court also imposed a €750,000 criminal fine and ordered the seizure of his substantial property in Morocco.
The verdict was delivered by the Rennes court, marking a significant legal blow to the criminal network operating from Nantes. The case had drawn attention for Lahrach's reputation as an elusive figure who had avoided capture for years.
Despite his ability to stay out of police hands, the judgment struck at his financial base, targeting assets held abroad. Authorities confiscated a considerable real‑estate portfolio located in Morocco as part of the enforcement measures.
The financial penalty of €750,000 underscores the severity of the offenses attributed to Lahrach. The fine complements the custodial sentence and the asset seizure, aiming to dismantle the economic foundations of his operation.
In addition to Lahrach’s conviction, eleven members of his inner circle were also found guilty. Their sentences were handed down alongside the main judgment, reflecting the broader scope of the criminal network.
The combined rulings represent a coordinated effort by French justice to disrupt drug trafficking networks linked to Nantes. The outcomes signal that even the most insulated figures can face comprehensive penalties.
