Nerea Nevado and Maite Zubieta Depart Athletic Women

Athletic Club's women's side hosted Alhama at Lezama on Sunday to close the 2025-26 campaign. Nerea Nevado and Maite Zubieta were left out of the matchday squad and are expected to depart after their contracts end. The fixture carried no stakes beyond confirming the team in seventh place. The day also featured tributes to veteran players Naroa Uriarte and Olatz Santana. Coach Javi Lerga described the exclusions as club decisions. Director Ibaigane confirmed on Monday that both Nevado and Zubieta will leave, having declined renewal offers. Their contracts expired at the end of the season. Neither player signed a new agreement after the expiry. Athletic Club will need to recruit replacements for the two departing players before the next season. The club has not announced further squad changes.
