Nice Secure Ligue 1 Spot, Rivère Criticises Lorenzi Switch
OGC Nice beat Saint-Étienne 4-1 in the Ligue 1 play-offs on Friday evening, securing the club's stay in the top division. Club president Jean-Pierre Rivère addressed the recent reversal of sporting director Grégory Lorenzi, who had signed for Nice before opting for Olympique de Marseille.
The 4-1 victory took place in the Barrages de Ligue 1, the decisive round for promotion and relegation. The win confirmed OGC Nice's retention of Ligue 1 status for the upcoming season.
Rivère said the departure of Lorenzi was "not financially neutral" for the club. He noted that Lorenzi had committed to Nice before choosing the role at OM.
OGC Nice will now focus on squad preparation for the next Ligue 1 campaign. Olympique de Marseille will integrate Lorenzi as its new sporting director.
