Prefect Bans Nice Fans from Stadium Ahead of Saint‑Étienne Play‑off
The prefect of Alpes-Maritimes prohibited Nice supporters from approaching the Allianz Riviera stadium and OGC Nice's training centre on Friday 29 May. The ban coincides with the Ligue 1‑Ligue 2 promotion/relegation play‑off second leg against AS Saint‑Étienne, which authorities have classified as high risk.
The restriction applies to all supporters regardless of affiliation. Police will enforce the perimeter around both the stadium and the training facilities throughout the match day.
The play‑off determines whether OGC Nice retains its Ligue 1 status or AS Saint‑Étienne secures promotion. The fixture is the return leg, following the first‑leg result that set up the decisive encounter.
The decision was announced by local authorities in coordination with the French Ministry of the Interior. No alternative viewing locations were specified for barred fans.
OGC Nice will host the match behind an empty or reduced‑capacity crowd due to the ban. The high‑risk label reflects concerns over potential clashes between rival supporters.
The outcome on 29 May will finalize the composition of the 2026‑27 Ligue 1 lineup. Authorities will review security measures for future fixtures based on the play‑off's conduct.
