Varzim SC Ends Contract with Coach Nuno Capucho
Varzim Sport Club announced on its official social media channels that the relationship with head coach Nuno Capucho has come to an end. The club shared the statement on Instagram.
The announcement highlighted Capucho's professionalism, dedication and sense of responsibility during his tenure. Varzim thanked him for his work and wished him the greatest happiness both personally and professionally.
Capucho, 54, departed after the team failed to secure promotion to the second division. Varzim finished sixth in the Liga 3 championship playoff, falling short of the promotion spots.
The club's season saw them contest the Liga 3 title race but they were unable to progress beyond a sixth-place finish. The disappointing result prompted the decision to part ways with the coach.
Before taking the Varzim job for the 2025/26 season, Capucho experienced a year without a coaching appointment. His most recent role was as manager of FC Porto's under‑19 side in the 2023/24 campaign.
Varzim's full message read: "Varzim Sport Club informs that the link with coach Nuno Capucho has ended. Throughout this period he represented the club with professionalism, dedication and a high sense of responsibility, facing all challenges with commitment and respect for the values of this institution. On behalf of Varzim Sport Club we extend our sincere thanks for the work carried out and wish him the greatest happiness, both personally and professionally. Thank you, Mister."
The statement was posted on the club's official Instagram account, confirming the mutual termination of the coach's contract.
