Olatz Santana Leaves Athletic Bilbao After One Season

Olatz Santana will leave Athletic Bilbao after the 2025‑26 season. Athletic announced the goalkeeper’s departure from the Lezama facilities. Santana joined Athletic in the summer of 2025 from Real Sociedad. She signed a contract for one year with an optional second year contingent on performance. During her spell she recorded five league appearances. All five matches occurred in the opening weeks of 2026. The compact schedule resulted from a head injury to Nanclares sustained during his visit to Real Madrid. The injury forced squad adjustments that limited Santana’s playing time. Athletic now faces a vacancy in goal ahead of the next campaign. The club has not disclosed a replacement target.
