Pau Cubarsi delivers near‑perfect passing for Spain at World Cup

🇪🇸 3 uur geleden

Barcelona centre‑back Pau Cubarsi, 19, has impressed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing the full 90 minutes in Spain’s opening matches against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia. Against Saudi Arabia he completed 98 of 99 passes, helping Spain keep a clean sheet.

Spain remain unbeaten and have yet to concede a goal in the tournament. Saudi Arabia managed only three shots and recorded just two touches inside Spain’s penalty area.

Cubarsi displayed composure with 107 touches against Saudi Arabia, completing 98 passes. He also delivered four successful long balls, showcasing his range.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente highlighted the reliability of the Cubarsi‑Laporte partnership after the win. He praised both centre‑backs for their defensive stability.

Barcelona’s tactical system under Hansi Flick can be demanding for central defenders, yet Cubarsi appears unfazed. The next challenge will be Uruguay, whose physicality and experienced attackers will test him further.

His development at Barcelona has been described as stunning, proving he can shoulder elite responsibility. Cubarsi does not need headlines to demonstrate his importance for the team.

While Lamine Yamal is the face of Barcelona’s attacking future, Cubarsi may be equally vital on the defensive side. Having both teenagers at similar ages offers Barcelona a rare gift of talent on both ends of the pitch.
