Plymouth Argyle end women's contracts via email after budget cut
Plymouth Argyle informed their women's squad via email that contracts would not be renewed.
Club management stated the decision followed an end-of-season review and budget planning for 2026-27.
Head coach Charlotte Barrie resigned after players described the communication as cold and impersonal.
The email, sent to the majority of the squad, began with: “Hi all. Following our end-of-season review and planning for 2026-27, we wanted to let you know that we won’t be renewing contracts for the players included in this message.”
Plymouth Argyle acknowledged the decision was not taken lightly.
The club had previously slashed the women’s team budget despite a near-promotion last season.
Barrie’s resignation followed player feedback criticizing the club’s handling of the process.
