French police arrest 400+ after PSG Champions League riots
Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League final win over Arsenal triggered riots in Paris, leading French police to arrest over 400 people. Clashes erupted near the Eiffel Tower and along the Champs-Élysées as fans celebrated. Rioters set fires and vandalized property in central Paris neighborhoods.
More than 22,000 police officers were deployed across the city to manage the unrest. Authorities reported 47 police officers injured during the disturbances. Emergency services responded to 400 calls related to the riots, including fires and violent confrontations.
The violence began shortly after Paris Saint-Germain lifted the Champions League trophy. Rioters damaged vehicles, street furniture, and commercial properties. Firefighters extinguished multiple blazes set by protesters.
Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain condemned the violence in post-match statements. Both clubs urged fans to celebrate responsibly and avoid confrontations with authorities.
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin attributed the unrest to “hooligan groups” exploiting the event. He announced additional security measures for future major sporting events in France.
Paris Saint-Germain’s victory marks their first-ever Champions League title. The win sparked widespread celebrations, but also exposed security vulnerabilities in managing large-scale fan gatherings.
