Portsmouth aim to nail summer transfer window

John Mousinho has been in charge of Portsmouth since January 2023. Sporting director Richard Hughes oversaw the summer that built a squad which won promotion from League One.

The past two seasons required strong January windows to secure Championship survival. New contracts have been offered to Zak Swanson and Connor Ogilvie, but no announcements have been made. The club remains confident both will remain Portsmouth players next season.

Retaining Swanson and Ogilvie would raise the senior squad to 25 players. That would necessitate departures of players over the age of 21. Terry Devlin was courted by Wrexham in January and could depart, which would increase Portsmouth's spending power.

Adrian Segecic's strong end to the season may attract interest. Ibane Bowat, who turns 24 in September, needs regular football. Jordan Williams will likely seek more league starts.

Luke Le Roux may be given another chance after a difficult first season. Harvey Blair has yet to fulfil his potential. Makenzie Kirk is expected to go out on loan for more opportunities.

Portsmouth have not yet replaced Matt Ritchie on the right wing. They need a partner for Ebou Adams in midfield, though Marlon Pack could still contribute.

A striker is required to start on opening day if Colby Bishop cannot rediscover form. Sporting director Hughes indicated that the return of loan player Conor Chaplin is unlikely.

Milenic Alli is a loan winger at Portsmouth. Gustavo Cabellero is also a loan winger, and both are likely to leave Fratton Park.

Free agents Jed Wallace and Adam Webster are unlikely to join Portsmouth. Abu Kamara has been likened to Ben Thompson as a player whose loan spell may be his only stint with the club.

Portsmouth appear set to retain head coach John Mousinho. Fans are relieved no poaching has occurred yet.
